The Project Lifecycle
When we undertake the development of a new website we keep the work on track by adhering to a tried and tested Project Lifecycle. There is always room for adjustment, but fundamentally every project will take the following course:
Our first contact with the client, introducing ourselves and gaining some understanding of the website requirements. We would probably organise a preliminary meeting to discuss things in slightly more detail.
Gather sufficient information to produce a quote for the work. This may take a few minutes or several days/weeks depending on the project complexity. Quote to be signed off by the client.
The design may of course be 'tweaked' as things progress.
Creation of the website begins. We will normally proceed to an agreed point at this stage, perhaps completing the home page for example.
Demonstration to the client. This meeting helps confirm that the design is correct - that we are building the website with the correct 'look and feel'.
Continue building the website, making changes where necessary as advised by the client.
Update meetings may be held at any mutually convenient time. If development has been completed to the client's satisfaction then we move on to 'sign-off', otherwise development work continues.
The client confirms that the website has been developed as required, and is ready to go 'live' on the Internet.
The website is put 'live'. Thorough testing is performed to ensure everything has been uploaded and is functioning correctly.
If this service has been requested we will already have completed the 'on-page' optimisation during the development phase. Following live implementation we now proceed with the 'off-page' link-building work.
The project is now complete, so any further amendments from now on must be charged for separately! However, we are happy to perform a few minor 'tweaks' during the first few days of the site being live, without extra charge.
At this point, we will invoice the client for the work done.
