Questions & Answers
Below is a selection of commonly asked questions, along with our answers. Some of the subjects relate specifically to our services whereas others are more generalised. If you have a question which is not dealt with below please contact us. We will do our best to resolve any query you may have.
ISP stands for Internet Service Provider. This will be the company that provides the equipment and/or network access which allows you to connect to the internet.
This is your website address. For example, the domain name of this site is www.ajbweb.co.uk.
You don't have to if your ISP already provides web space, but a standard domain name ending .co.uk or .com is easier for your customers to remember (and indeed to type in!) than some of the personal web addresses provided by ISP's. This almost certainly makes it more likely that people will bother to visit your site in the first place. It's fairly cheap to buy a domain anyway - the one for this site cost less than £10!
Web Hosting basically means using the services of a company which provides you with web space - somewhere to keep the files which make up your website. A web hosting agreement will also usually include the option to set up several email addresses relating to your domain; for example if your domain name is abc.co.uk you would be able to set up email addresses such as enquiries@abc.co.uk, support@abc.co.uk etc.
Costs vary depending on the provider, but many will make it easy for you by giving you the first year free. After that, costs may be around £50-£75 per year. We will be happy to remind you when these renewal payments become due.
We do not charge you an annual standing charge for maintenance. When you need a change to your website we will estimate the work at that time. Otherwise, you pay nothing extra once your initial development is live. The right to maintain the site does remain with us though; please see our standard Terms & Conditions.
We will treat all information you supply, whether physical or electronic, with complete confidentiality. For further information, please see our Privacy Policy.
If an exact 'live' date is critical to you, please mention this when you contact us initially. If we cannot guarantee completion by the date you require we will not undertake the work. If we do decide we can meet your deadline then your needs will be written into the contract, in which case failure by us to produce your website in the agreed time will result in penalties for us, provided you have not made substantial changes to the original design during development. This scenario should never actually arise anyway, since at each stage of the process we will discuss any new requirements with you, and agree a revised finish date where appropriate.
Yes we can. Please contact us to discuss a time and date that is convenient to you. We can come to your home or office, or you are welcome to come to us. Whatever you decide, we guarantee a relaxed, friendly jargon-free session which will almost certainly improve your web skills enormously. Please see our Internet training page for further details.
