Choosing a Domain Name
What's in a name? You might already be one-hundred percent certain as to what your new website should be called, but maybe you are not so sure?
Choosing a suitable domain name is not always as easy as it sounds. You're perhaps wise to avoid a very long name, which will be frequently mistyped or will simply put potential visitors off; on the other hand it is sensible to go for something meaningful, a name which actually indicates what you are trying to achieve.
For example:
www.thebestclothingshopintheuk.co.uk is extremely descriptive, but how many prospective customers will want to type in such a daunting address? On the other hand ...
www.fscs.co.uk might well be the website of 'Fred Smith's Carpentry Services', but how would anyone know at first glance?
The other consideration when selecting your domain name is which suffix you would like to use, in other words do you want your website name to end with .co.uk, .com, .org etc.? We can advise on this if you wish.
Whatever you decide - you will next need to be sure that your chosen domain name is actually free to use - not already allocated to someone else! You can check this here if you wish; alternatively we will help determine availability for you.
When you have chosen your domain name and confirmed availability, we will purchase the domain on your behalf and register it for you for the first two years. The cost of doing this is usually minimal - around £10 for a .co.uk domain. When the two year registration period is close to expiring we will remind you to renew: this should cost around the same as the initial payment.
